From airport to Hotel Occam: ------------------------- Follow green S (S-bahn) sign when you exit the baggage claim. Before you descend to the S-bahn platform look around for an S-bahn counter with actual English speaking humans. Buy a ticket there. Best thing (I think) is to get a Single Day Ticket for €10 or so. You can use it not just to get into town but also the rest of the day. The ticket is good for all trains and buses. Take S8 line to Marienplatz or S1 line to Marienplatz (either will work... S8 is faster). Exit S-bahn at Marienplatz and switch to subway U6 heading to "Garching Forschungszentrum" (follow blue U6 signs and orange U3 signs) You can take either U6 or U3 (same platform, but alternating arrival). Exit either U6 or U3 at Muenchner Freiheit. Head above ground. Hotel Occam is about 3 blocks away (refer to google map or Occam website) From airport to the Observatory (USM): -------------------------------- Follow green S (S-bahn) sign when you exit the baggage claim. Take S8 line to Ostbahnhof (don't take S1 because it will take MUCH longer). Exit and walk out of station, looking for the Bus terminal right in front of the Bahnhof (train station). Look for Bus 54 heading toward Muenchner Freiheit. Jump on and go about 5 stops to "Galileiplatz" (Galileo's Square). The observatory is just across the Square... you will see a locked gate for cars. Head on around the corner and walk in the front gate. Head to the building, enter... and look for us on the ground floor. We will be in the classroom. From Hotel Occam to Observatory (USM): -------------------------------------- Walk back to Muenchner Freiheit U-bahn station. There is a Bus terminal there above ground. Get the Bus 54 (toward Lorettaplatz or something... you are at the end of the line so there is only one direction). Go 10 or so stations and exit at Galileiplatz. As you exit you will have just passed the observatory. Look for it back across the Square-- with locked metal gate for cars. Go on around the corner to find the main entrance. Walk in and enter the building. We are on the ground floor (classroom). Ask anyone for help. Also-- please call me at +49-151-2238-2254 (or 0151-2238-2254 from German phone) if you run into any problems! Here is a link describing anything you could ever want to know about the trains, buses and trams (street cars) in Munich: http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/home/index.html Another thought on tickets... once you get into town from airport then the next day it's probably best to buy a "2 Day Ticket -- Inner region" (2-Tagekarte Innenraum) which lets you get on and off whatever transportation you want to take for two days. If you are staying longer then consider a Week Ticket (Wochekarte), which runs from Monday to Sunday each week. Please don't hesitate to send questions... Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday morning at the observatory! Don't forget that Sunday is Mother's Day!!!!! Best wishes, Joe
