Aura Obreja

I am a post-doc at Universitäts-Sternwarte München (USM), working in the Emmy Noether research group 'Galaxy and Dark Matter' lead by Benjamin Moster.

My broad research interest is understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies and their inner structures across cosmic time. For this purpose I use "zoom-in" simulations of galaxies in a cosmological context together with cutting-edge observational data. I am developing methods to define the various components of simulated galaxies, and use their output to study the evolution of galactic structures like thin and thick disks. These kind of dynamical decompositions make the comparison between simulations and observations much more straightforward. This dialogue between simulations and observations is fundamental to constrain galaxy formation models. I am also implementating physically motivated sub-grid recipes in simulation codes, and testing their predictions.
